Mr. Blathers, Sr. was born in the great city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist faith at Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is a North Division High School graduate with several years of post-secondary education majoring in liberal arts. After becoming a young, proud father, he struggled financially. He has always been involved in youth organizations, such as Career Youth Development (CYD), Children’s Outing Association Youth Center, and Holton Youth Center, to name a few. Growing up in a single-family home with six siblings was not easy. The direction of the street life influenced him. Being a product of the 53206 area, which was dark, he moved to Denver, Colorado, married, and had a son and daughter. Opportunity knocked while in Denver, and he worked for Raider Railcar (Phillip Morris), the United States Postal Services, and received his Cosmetology license. Mr. Blathers moved back to Milwaukee and opened Rock Steady Barber Stylist. Establishing the shop on the historic Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was a blessing.
The neighborhoods I ran, played, and got into trouble began the community I serviced. As an entrepreneur, he did not just open his doors to make the customers look and feel good. He opened them to uplift his community and give to the youth who needed balanced conversations. He became a Prince Hall mason in 2012 and the 38th Worshipful Master of Tyre Lodge #8. He is the Worthy Patron of Sarah’s Joy Chapter #8 Order of the Eastern Star, the secretary for The Council of Masters and Wardens, the Perfect Knight Junior Warden of Rose Croix Ionic Consistory, the Secretary of Men’s Proactive Health Initiative (MPHI), and the Vice President of the Prince Hall Masonic Foundation, Inc. He considers each of these titles as honors that keep him motivated, sustaining, charitable, and another addition to the many pillars of Milwaukee. He has worked for several years with Friends of True Square Foundation, Inc. volunteering and fundraising for the youth with the Milwaukee Brewers.
